Hydraulic Cylinder Repairs

Have you had a seal blow out on your hydraulic rams, or noticed a spot of hydraulic oil leaking from a cylinder?

Here at Shrewsbury Small Engine Repairs, we are as flexible as possible. if you’re competent in removing the damaged ram yourselves, then by all means you can either bring it to our workshop for us to inspect & repair. However, if you’d rather leave it up to the professionals, then we can either come to you as an emergency breakdown or, you can bring the machine to us in whole for us to remove.

Please ensure if you choose to remove any hydraulic rams yourselves, that the rams are completely weightless before undoing any hydraulic hoses. Failure to do so can cause serious injury and potentially, death.

Once we have the hydraulic ram off the machine and in the workshop, we’ll completely disassemble the rams, inspecting them carefully for any pitting, bends, or weakness. We’ll also inspect all the seals and advise on the necessary route towards repairing them.

Why get your Hydraulic Rams Repaired?

At the end of the day, it often comes down to cost…although buying new is sometimes not even an option due to the age and availability for that particular machine. Buying new hydraulic rams is typically more expensive than paying us to repair them, offering a more cost-effective and time-sensitive solution. We have a huge selection of seals readily available, and any we don’t have we can typically get our hands on within 24 hours, meaning your machinery is back at work as quickly as possible.

In addition to the above benefits, we provide a very high-quality coat of paint to all rams that leave our workshop, making them indistinguishable from their brand-new counterparts, but at a fraction of the price!

What kind of Hydraulic Rams do you repair?

  • Single & Double Acting Cylinders
  • Telescopic Cylinders
  • High Pressure Cylinders
  • Displacement Cylinders
  • Subsea & Offshore Hydraulic Cylinders

How much does this service cost?

We get asked this all the time and it’s honestly impossible to say and depends on so many variables. For example, whether we are coming to you, distance, and time it takes to remove (every 20-minute job is sometimes one threaded bolt away from a 3-day ordeal, as they say). Often on older machines years of grime and dirt can accumulate and harden, making the removal and stripping time longer. On the flip side of this, the majority of rams we repair are normally done within a 3-hour window.

All Hydraulic Ram repairs are priced at our hourly rate for Hydraulic Repairs of £75/ph. The good thing is, we charge an upfront fee of £45 per ram. This allows for us to strip the ram, and assess what work needs to be done, and provide you with an educated estimate of the price for the repair. If you decide to go ahead with the repair, the £45 fee is taken off the bill. However, should you decide not to go ahead, then that money is used to cover our time in the strip / inspection process. Please note…we will not rebuild a broken ram for liability reasons, and the ram will be handed back in it’s stripped condition.

Do we get any guarantee?

We offer a 12-month seal and workmanship guarantee. But should the ram be damaged via other means, then this will not be covered.

What is your turnaround time for repairs?

Our turnaround times for Hydraulic Ram Repairs depend on the complexity of the repair, as well as other outside factors such as how busy the workshop is, parts availability, etc, however, we appreciate that time is money, and downtime on heavy machinery can be expensive, so please rest assured knowing we will work with you to get you back up and running as soon as we can.

We live far away, can we send our rams to you by courier?

Yes of course! This is commonplace here. We recommend getting in touch first, and we can talk you through the process. Please don’t just send in your cylinders, rams, or any components without speaking to us first!

How do we get in touch?

If you’d like to book a repair, please either give us a call on 07751 127 006, or enquire via the contact form on the contact us page, and a member of our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
