Routine Servicing

Routine Servicing by Shrewsbury Small Engine Repairs

What is a Routine Service?

A routine Service is a service which keeps your machinery performing at it’s best, and mitigate the need for expensive repairs in the future.

What does a Routine Service include?

A routine service includes all of the necessary steps to ensure your machinery maintains its working condition. Each machine is unique, and some may require more service parts and oils than another. Typically speaking, all fluids, filters and greasing points, as well as ignition parts such as spark plugs or glow plugs are included in a service, as well as greasing up / lubricating height adjustments, and sharpening and blades or chains as required. A routine service also includes a health and safety inspection. This is where we inspect and test all machines to ensure that all safety cut-out, and safety devices that are installed, are functional.

We also inspect all belts and pulleys for wear, along with bearings. If replacement of these parts are necessary, then we will inform you of what’s required, and gain permission to go ahead and order the relevant parts, and get the work into the schedule as soon as possible.

Difference between a routine service & a repair?

We frequently get customers drop off their machinery for a service. This typically happens when they either stop running, or are running rough. This is usually through not sticking to the routine service schedule as outlined via the manufacturer. However, this would be classed as a repair, and probably requires a service at the same time.

For example, when your car wont start, or runs rough, you wouldn’t ask a mechanic to give it a service, but instead, to diagnose, and repair the issues, potentially followed by a service thereafter. The exact same principles apply to any engine, whether big or small. Regular routine servicing is a must, to avoid the additional cost of repairs.

How much does a routine service cost?

The work required depends on the machine itself, as well as the associated costs for service parts. For example, an air filter for a briggs and stratton classic 35 engine off a self-propelled rotary mower is circa £5, where’s an air filter for a John Deere GX355D ride on is in the region of £80. So it’s very difficult to put a price on what it will cost without speaking to you.

We do however list the costs for servicing many machines on our What do our services cost? page. These costs are baseline costs, and parts are additional.
